Quick and easy desserts come in handy on a regular basis. Whether you are simply feeding your family, company, or entertaining a special guest, sometimes the entrée has been such a focus that you have completely forgotten to consider what to serve for dessert. Look online, look in “quick and easy” cookbooks, and ask a friend for recipes; you will soon have all kinds of quick and easy desserts from which to choose.

The only problem you might run into with these quick and easy dessert ideas is that they may require a grocery store run, which might assume that you have planned ahead enough to have time to run to the grocery store right now! So in some ways, quick and easy “emergency” desserts can only be quick and easy if you happen to have the ingredients required on hand.

Don’t despair. Many of the quick and easy recipes do included “three-ingredients or less” in their title. And, several of them are simple concoctions of things you might consider staples in your home: flour, sugar, butter, etc.

And, honestly, if you think about it, there are things that you could stock in your pantry to support your habit of forgetting the dessert until last minute. For example, good ice cream, store-bought cookies, fresh fruit, honey, whipping cream, chocolate, and butter, flour, and other baking goods can set you on a safe track to whipping up something fast.

Some suggest hot espresso poured over vanilla ice cream. That sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Sugar fresh fruit topped with real whipped cream makes a lovely light end to the meal.

Interestingly, even Martha Stewart has a section on her website for “Quick and Easy” desserts. However, her version of quick and easy might be slightly different from yours, and the ingredients are not quite as common.

Sometimes easy cookies rule as the best last minute dessert that you can whip up. Of course, it’s still hard to beat a simple dish of fruit. But, you could take your easy cookie recipe and turn it into a 9 x 13 pan, and end up with very yummy cookie bars. Even easier, right?

In a pinch, you can still come up with a sweet complement to your entrée, and all will be well.
